Australian broadcaster Optus Sport has released a hilarious new campaign looking to capitalise on the steep uptick of interest in Tottenham in the country since the appointment of head coach Ange Postecoglou.

The former Celtic manager has had a punchy start to life in the Premier League, winning four of their opening six league clashes to end the weekend in fourth place.

Postecoglou has won plaudits not just for his side’s attractive playing style – dubbed Angeball – but for shifting the mood at the Tottenham Hostpur Stadium after a turbulent handful of seasons that saw Spurs fail to nab a place in European competition at the end of last term.

The Australian manager’s early success on English soil has seen him steadily build a wealth of support amongst fans of the Premier League in his home country.

But for those still on the fence about following Tottenham for the first time, Optus’ marketing video sought to offer some reassuring words.

Optus Sport has dubbed the growing number of Ange Postecoglou followers – who may still be unsure about following Spurs – ‘Ange Posteconflict’

The hilarious new advert by the Australian broadcaster reassured viewers that it was ‘OK’ to support the north London side

‘Are you having some confusing feelings?’ The voiceover began, against the backdrop of images of agonised Spurs fans. ‘Don’t support Spurs, but love Ange? Or maybe you’re just Spurs-curious?

‘At Optus Sport, we call this “Ange Posteconflict”,’ the voiceover added in a tongue-in-cheek play on the 58-year-old’s surname.

‘We’re here to tell you you’re not alone. Many Australians are struggling with their new-found love for Tottenham,’ the voiceover continued, over pictures of celebrating Spurs fans. ‘It’s time to embrace Angeball.’

In a final teasing twist that seemed to poke fun at Tottenham’s prior unpopularity, the video finished: ‘It’s OK to like Spurs too. At least while Ange is cooking’.

Whilst the club may not be looking for fairweather fans, Postecoglou’s side gave newcomers something to consider with their performance against London rivals Arsenal on Sunday.

The Australian-Greek manager led his side to a promising 2-2 draw in the north London derby

Two goals from Son Heung-min (centre right) capped a feisty comeback from the visitors

Tottenham pulled off an impressive fightback at the Emirates during the north London derby to hold Mikel Arteta’s team to a 2-2 draw at home, with Son Heung-min finding two prompt replies to Arsenal’s firepower.

The north London side has form with talismanic figures drawing a wealth of new support to Spurs.

Son is a national hero in South Korea, and his presence at Tottenham since his 2015 has built up a sturdy Korean fanbase for the Lilywhites.

The club capitalised on their support ahead of the 2022/23 season as they focused their pre-season preparations on a tour of the country, which saw them play Team K League and Sevilla.
